Plan
Title:
Storing up stories
objective: performance.
It is to be used at the beginning (or end) of a
number
of lessons after the story has been created to allow the students to practice
their segment of the story. Each segment
will also be merged into one file so that the students can be given a copy of
the complete story at the end.
Level: Pre-intermediate
Class type:
Young learners (10 – 11y.o)
Aim: To practice narrative tenses and to encourage their
imagination
and story-telling ability in English (including pronunciation). As it is a class project it also has the
benefit of helping foster a stronger group dynamic.
Activity
focus: Writing and pronunciation
Time: 5 mins (could be
more depending on the length of the story)
Material: Computer with access to internet + headphones
YLs story segments for each
child
Procedure:
1. The
students had already written a story for their end of semester performance. The teacher suggested that they record it
using audacity (which the students had used when doing weather forecasts).
2. Students
are assigned parts of the story to read
3. They
practice individually reading aloud with the teacher monitoring closely and
helping with pronunciation when necessary
4. The
students are then taken to the computer room
5. The
teacher opens audacity (using the data projector) and asks questions to assess
how much students remember about using the programme
6. At
the end of the review the teacher leaves the step by step slide on the
projector
7. The
students record themselves reading their segment of the story – when they are
happy with their recording they have the teacher listen to it.
8. It
is then saved and exported as an mp3
9. The
teacher creates a glog which includes the audiofiles for the students to be
able to click on them and practice their part of the story at home.
10. The glog
will also include a complete (merged) version of the story
